Take the “Most Beautiful Drive in America,” drive you can pick up a CD at any grocery store around Lake Tahoe. Put the CD or cassette into your car player and get a historical and colorful tour of Lake Tahoe’s best as you drive along the lakes 72-mile shoreline.

Visit the historic rail town of Truckee with its many unique shops and restaurants. Minutes from downtown Truckee is the Donner State park and its museum and monument to the infamous Donner Party Expedition of 1846. Truckee is right off Highway 80 or you can drive to North Lake Tahoe and take Highway 89 from Kings Beach past Northstar into Truckee.

Two snowstorms forecast to hit the Tahoe region this week bringing the beginning of the winter wonderland ski season. “It looks like it’s going to be an active pattern through the extended forecast,” Mr. McGuire said from the National Weather Service. They expect a cold front from Canada to low in this weekend and bring a good amount of snow with it. Also forecasted is another storm to move into Tahoe mid-week creating ideal powder for you skiers and snowboarders. The forecast is a relief to residents since according the National Weather Service the snowpack is only 31% of the average snowpack. We have more snow than last year, but we are still very much below average.

Diamond Peak Resort Opens for the Season
North Lake Tahoe’s Incline Village premiere ski resort Diamond Peak’s opening day for the 2009-10 season was Thursday December 17th. Diamond Peak’s opening is a week late as the resort was supposed to open December 10th but didn’t because of lack of snowfall. Over the last few days Lake Tahoe has become a winter wonderland again creating a fresh powder paradise for skiers and snowboarders.

Another fun activity to do in North Lake Tahoe is to take the Heavenly tram. The Heavenly tram takes passengers 2,000 feet above beautiful Lake Tahoe. The ride is beautiful and exhilarating as you travel along Tahoe’s 72 mile shoreline with breathtaking views no matter what season it is. Words of advice before you get on the tram consider the weather and bring a sweater or coat because the air is chilly at that height.
